The Greater Oneonta Economic Development Council [GO-EDC] is organized to promote general commercial and economic development, primarily within the geographic footprint of the City and Town of Oneonta in all economic sectors to include, but not limited to, industrial, educational, health care, travel and tourism, transportation, energy, agri business, as well the overall cultural welfare of the area. GO-EDC will consult and cooperate with appropriate state, municipal, along with local public or private agencies, in matters affecting the economic and cultural development within the target area. The Council will annually prioritize the most vital and promising economic development initiatives from its strategic plan and then provide leadership towards their implementation.
Acting as executive secretaries to GO-EDC are Al Colone and Bill Shue.
Mr. Colone is a long time native Oneontan having been born, raised and worked in Oneonta all his life. He was the founder and director of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, former City of Oneonta Recreation Director , and currently is head of a sports management group called Colone Associates . His wife, Diana, is a long time resident of Oneonta and currently is Vice President of T.S. Pink Corp. in Oneonta , which is a major producer of Soap Rocks on the international level.
Mr. Shue did his undergraduate work and graduate work at SUNY Oneonta and has lived and in Oneonta for 39 years. He is a former Sixth Ward Councilman having served on the public works committee, the finance committee, the intergovernmental affairs committee and liason to the Town of Oneonta. Mr. Shue is a retired teacher from the Oneonta City School District , having taught 42 years in public schools. His wife , Marie, a native Oneontan , taught elementary school grades within the Oneonta City School District retiring in 2010. She tutors a handicapped child in reading and is active in Girls On The Run.
